"Significant Contribution to Understanding the History of Independence Movements in the Manju Region"
Jang Se-yoon, a senior researcher at the East Asian History Research Institute of Sungkyunkwan University, received this year's Independence Hall Academic Award on the 11th for his work "History of the Independence Movement in Northeast China." The award was established by the Independence Hall in 2005 to encourage and promote research on the history of the Korean independence movement and to boost researchers' morale. Each year, one outstanding publication in the field of Korean independence movement history is selected.
"History of the Independence Movement in Northeast China" is the result of the author's research revisiting the content and concepts of the Korean independence movement in the Manchuria region, which he has studied over time, utilizing newly discovered materials. It is recognized for clearly clarifying the realities of the Battles of Bongo-dong and Cheongsan-ri. The Independence Hall stated, "It is a specialized research book that comprehensively covers the complex and diverse history of the Manchurian independence movement by period, region, and organization," adding, "It greatly contributes to the understanding of the independence movement history in the Manchuria region."
