[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The number of new COVID-19 cases has reached the 120,000 range, pushing the total cumulative cases beyond 21 million. Both the number of critically ill patients and deaths increased compared to the previous day.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 12th, as of midnight, 128,714 new cases were reported, bringing the total cumulative cases to 21,111,840. Among these, 464 cases were imported from overseas.
The number of new cases on this day was 1.14 times that of a week ago, showing a slight decrease in the multiplier compared to the previous day. The previous day's new cases were 1.27 times that of a week ago. However, the rate of increase compared to last week has risen. Comparing the average multiplier for weekdays Monday through Friday, it increased from 1.22 during the 1st to 5th to 1.25 during the 8th to 12th.
The number of critically ill patients increased by 35 from the previous day to 453. The number of critically ill patients, which was 297 on the 7th, has been increasing by about 20 daily. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate rose to 40.8% on this day, returning to the 40% range for the first time in four days since the 8th. The nationwide semi-critical care bed occupancy rate is 60.6%.
The number of new deaths was 58, one less than the previous day. However, it increased by 10 compared to a week ago (47). By age group, deaths included 35 people aged 80 and above, 15 in their 70s, 2 in their 50s, 1 in their 40s, and 2 in their 30s. The total cumulative deaths reached 25,499, with a fatality rate of 0.12%.
