View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Korea University Anam Hospital announced on the 12th that Professor Lee Hong-sik of the Department of Gastroenterology has been elected as a new director of the International Association of Pancreatology (IAP).
The new director of the International Association of Pancreatology is elected with the approval of the board of directors upon the recommendation of the executive committee, and the term is four years.
The International Association of Pancreatology is the only international society worldwide dedicated exclusively to the pancreas, with over 3,500 medical professionals and scientists, including basic medical researchers and clinical researchers in internal medicine and surgery from Europe, the United States, and Japan. Its official journal is "Pancreatology."
Professor Lee graduated from Korea University College of Medicine and completed his master's and doctorate degrees at the same graduate school. He worked as a researcher at Harvard University's BIDMC in the United States and served as the dean of Korea University College of Medicine and the director of the Graduate School of Medicine, as well as the chairman of the Korean Pancreatobiliary Association.

Professor Lee stated, "I will work to raise the international status of Korean pancreas and biliary research within the International Association of Pancreatology and contribute to the improvement of public health and national healthcare standards."
