View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City, Gyeongbuk, hosted the '2022 Dongam Teacher Memorial Pohang Mayor's Cup Gyeongbuk Judo Championship' on the 10th at the Pohang Indoor Gymnasium.
This tournament was organized and hosted by the Gyeongbuk Judo Association and the Pohang Judo Association, with about 500 participants including elementary, middle, and high school students from Gyeongbuk, recreational sports club members, general division athletes, and officials. The competition was divided into individual and team events, featuring boys' and girls' elementary, middle, high school divisions, club divisions (elementary, middle, high school), and general divisions (including university).
The 'Dongam Teacher Memorial Pohang Mayor's Cup Gyeongbuk Judo Championship' was established in 1982 to honor the spirit of the late Dongam Moon Dalsik, the patriarch of Pohang's judo community and a pioneer who opened the era of Korean judo.
It has served as a cradle producing pillars of Korean judo, including London Olympic gold medalist Kim Jaebeom, and proudly boasts a deep tradition as it marks its 40th edition this year.

Hwang Sang-sik, Director of the Sports Industry Division, said, "I find it very meaningful that this judo competition held in Pohang is already in its 40th year," adding, "We expect this tournament to continue playing a significant role in nurturing excellent judo athletes in the region as well as greatly contributing to the expansion of recreational sports participants."
