Gyeongbuk Office of Education Announces '2023 College Scholastic Ability Test D-100 Days Study Strategy'.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education has produced study strategy materials for examinees to mark 100 days until the 2023 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) and distributed them to high schools across the province.
This material was distributed by the Gyeongbuk Admission Support Center under the Gyeongbuk Office of Education Research Institute to help examinees preparing for the second year of the integrated humanities and natural sciences CSAT, and it is expected to provide practical assistance for high school students in the province preparing for college entrance.
The general contents of the study strategy materials are as follows, and the card news produced based on this and the encouragement video for examinees by Superintendent Lim Jong-sik can be found on the official Gyeongbuk Office of Education YouTube channel ‘Matkulmeokkul’.
1. Study Strategies by Subject Area
▲Korean Language Area
The Korean language area is divided into reading, literature, and speech and writing or language and media.
In the reading section, excluding three questions on reading theory, about 14 questions are presented with passages from various fields such as humanities, social sciences, science, technology, and arts.
For passages requiring inference, drawing the structure within the sentences at the time of reading the passage as a diagram or simple concept can help with inference. Of course, this process will be effective when consistently solving 2 to 3 passages daily.
The literature section has a vast range of possible passages, and since it is impossible to analyze all literary works, it is necessary to analyze the entire work of the author mentioned in the EBS-linked textbooks when their work appears.
The ‘media’ part of ‘speech and writing’ and ‘language and media’ is presented in a manner similar to the reading section, so studying by analyzing and understanding past questions would be beneficial.
▲Mathematics Area
Since the change to a selective CSAT from last year, the scope of questions has significantly narrowed, and this area requires preparation focused not on conceptual learning but on problem-solving methods.
At the 100-day mark, students should review questions where they had difficulty understanding concepts or applying them to problems and study with a combination of concepts and problem-solving methods. For other parts, practicing various problem-solving methods through modified past questions and diverse question types will yield good results.
Realistically, students not aiming for top grades should not spend time on very difficult or new types of problems as it is inefficient.
Continue solving questions through EBS textbooks to avoid forgetting concepts, and while solving problems, focus on understanding the formulas or concepts needed and the problem-solving methods used in the process.
▲English Area
English is broadly divided into listening and reading comprehension.
The listening section is generally not very difficult, so it is best to repeatedly listen to EBS CSAT special lectures for English listening, past CSAT questions, and evaluation institute past questions whenever possible.
The reading comprehension section is a race against time, as students must quickly read English passages and select answers corresponding to the 28 questions.
Although it is graded on an absolute scale, it sometimes shows a difficulty level that cannot be ignored, and certain types of questions are consistently presented with difficulty.
Recently difficult questions include “Which word is most appropriate to fill in the following blank?” and “What is the most appropriate order of the text that follows the given passage?”
These are the most critical question types for achieving a top grade, so students aiming for the first grade should continuously practice these types of questions.
2. Time Management
No matter how urgent the CSAT is, immediately reducing sleep time is a strategy that makes it impossible to sustain even a 100-day race.
If the study amount is severely insufficient for tomorrow’s exam, one may adopt a strategy of using tomorrow’s energy today once.
However, the CSAT is a long-term race, and without regular sleep management, it cannot be sustained for a long and steady period.
Therefore, it is recommended to secure at least six hours of sleep.
3. ‘Five Winning College Entrance Strategies’ Presented by the Gyeongbuk Admission Support Center of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education
▲Practice like the real thing: Take the remaining mock exams under the same conditions as the CSAT
▲Condition management is also skill: Practice focusing during the exam time to be in the best condition on the CSAT day
▲Unwavering mental management: Maintain composure by saying “It’s natural to make mistakes! I can do it!” even if you get questions wrong during problem-solving
▲Exam is also strategy, selection and concentration: Increase study efficiency by adjusting study time and focus by subject according to individual circumstances
