KMA Forecasts Up to 300mm Rainfall in Central-Northern Regions and 350mm in Southern Gyeonggi
[Asia Economy PD Yoon Jin-geun] The Korea Meteorological Administration has forecasted that heavy rain may continue until the 11th in the Seoul metropolitan area, which suffered significant damage from the heavy rain on the 8th.
From late afternoon on the 8th, heavy rain poured over the central region including the Seoul metropolitan area. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, from midnight on the 8th to 9 a.m. on the 9th, more than 300mm of rain fell mainly in the southern autonomous districts, including Seocho-gu with 396mm, Gangnam-gu with 375.5mm, Geumcheon-gu with 375mm, and Gwanak-gu with 350mm.

View original imageThe rain on this day caused numerous incidents of flooding on roads, houses, and vehicles throughout Seoul and the metropolitan area. According to the property and casualty insurance industry, about 1,000 vehicle flood damage reports were received by insurance companies from the 8th to the morning of the 9th.
Public transportation such as buses and subways also suffered flood damage. Water poured onto the platform at Isu Station on the subway line, causing electric trains to pass through without stopping, and rainwater entered buses in operation. Additionally, vehicle traffic was halted at Seopangyo IC on the Yongin-Seoul Line due to a landslide that occurred overnight, and various roads were controlled.
The heavy rain caused casualties, with 7 people dead and 6 missing in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas.
