[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The candidates for the Democratic Party leadership who attended the joint speech meeting in Incheon each appealed for support with different messages. Candidate Lee Jae-myung emphasized 'national party formation,' candidate Kang Hoon-sik stressed 'a young ruling party,' and candidate Park Yong-jin highlighted 'a social solidarity party.'
On the afternoon of the 7th, at the 'Incheon Regional Party Leader Candidates Joint Speech Meeting' held at Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon, candidate Lee Jae-myung emphasized, "I will take full responsibility for ensuring the national party formation to win the next general election and presidential election."
He promised to promote the revival of district party organizations and allow support for non-elected committee chairs. He also stated that in regions where the party's influence is weak, priority allocation of proportional representation seats, assignment of key party positions, and human and material support would be provided to enable routine political activities.
Along with this, emphasizing a "winning Democratic Party," he questioned, "Who is the party leader that will create a beloved Democratic Party with strong leadership?"
Candidate Kang Hoon-sik described Incheon as a city proud of many firsts and as the gateway to the Republic of Korea, saying, "I want to lead the Democratic Party through change."
He also appealed, "I want to create a Democratic Party where new ideas and new people become the source of change and dynamism. Please pay attention to the new choice, Kang Hoon-sik." To this end, he expressed his intention to build a "young ruling party."
Candidate Park Yong-jin mentioned the achievements of former Presidents Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun, stating, "The Democratic Party must be a strong support for our neighbors and citizens who are marginalized and struggling, who have not been invited to our advanced country, the Republic of Korea."
Candidate Park explained, "Only then can we say that we will connect the middle class and the common people’s party, and go out to the world that Roh Moo-hyun talked about, where people live well."
