Gwangju Independent Legislative Research Group's 'Reasonable Proposal for Parking Violation Enforcement' Implementation Stage
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The rational proposal regarding parking violation enforcement, selected as the first topic by the independent local council research group of Gwangju Metropolitan City (headed by Dong-gu councilor Park Jong-gyun), has been adopted and entered the implementation stage.
According to Kim Ok-su, a councilor of Seo-gu, Gwangju, at the joint meeting of traffic guidance department officials from five districts hosted by Gwangju City on the 27th, the proposal submitted by the research group to each district regarding "Relaxation of Parking Enforcement in School Zones" was discussed and approved.
Until now, a fine of 120,000 KRW has been imposed if parking or stopping in a school zone exceeded 5 minutes.
The proposal to relax parking enforcement in school zones was initiated by Buk-gu councilor Gi Dae-seo after numerous complaints that, although the original logic of protecting children is valid, the 5-minute grace period is too short and the 120,000 KRW fine for a brief moment of carelessness is excessive. The councilors discussed this matter collectively.
According to the notification from Gwangju City, each district will independently decide to extend the grace period for parking violation enforcement from 5 minutes to within 15 minutes. Enforcement on weekdays will be relaxed from 6 PM to 8 PM after school hours, and weekends and holidays will also be exempted. The maximum fine of 120,000 KRW will be reduced to 40,000 KRW accordingly.
Councilor Gi Dae-seo of Buk-gu said, "Although parking violation enforcement in school zones is being relaxed due to the proposal by the independent local council research group, residents should not let their guard down and must take the lead in protecting children and complying with traffic rules."
Meanwhile, the independent local council research group of Gwangju Metropolitan City includes Dong-gu councilor Park Jong-gyun, Seo-gu councilor Kim Ok-su, Nam-gu councilor Park Yong-hwa, and Buk-gu councilors Choi Ki-young and Gi Dae-seo.
