Haman-gun Offers 40 Free Adoptions of Abandoned Animals
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Haman-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is offering free adoption of abandoned dogs to single-person households and others.
The county is implementing a free adoption program for excellent abandoned dogs at the Haman-gun Abandoned Animal Shelter to provide a new living environment for abandoned animals and alleviate loneliness among socially vulnerable groups.
The program reflects a system proposed in the 2022 Haman-gun citizen proposal contest and plans to adopt out a total of 40 dogs, one per person, to ▲single-person households ▲elderly living alone ▲single-parent families.
Families wishing to adopt must have an environment suitable for the continuous care of the abandoned dog and can apply at the industry department of each eup/myeon office from Monday to Friday throughout August.
The dogs available for adoption are those over six months old, gentle, and capable of neutering, after reviewing their past or current psychological state and behavior, including any history of abuse or problematic behavior.
Before adoption, basic health checkups, neutering surgery, and animal registration will be completed, and adopters can meet their dogs 7 to 14 days after being confirmed as adoption candidates.
The county will provide basic education on dog care before adoption to prevent disqualifying cases such as ▲re-abandonment by the adopter ▲transfer to others without reason ▲neglect due to irresponsibility ▲disposal of the adopted dog.
Post-adoption follow-up management will also be conducted for three years to prevent unqualified owners.
When single-parent families, basic livelihood security recipients, or lower-income groups adopt abandoned animals, the program will be linked with the low-income pet medical expense support project to reduce financial burdens and help maintain the health of the adopted dogs.
