Jeongeup-si to Distribute 'Daily Recovery Support Fund' Before Chuseok
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 3rd that it will provide a ‘Daily Life Recovery Support Fund’ of 200,000 KRW per person to all citizens before Chuseok.
On the same day, Mayor Lee Hak-su and City Council Chairman Go Kyung-yoon held a press conference in the city hall’s main conference room to announce Jeongeup City’s plan to provide the Daily Life Recovery Support Fund aimed at restoring citizens’ daily lives and revitalizing the stagnant local economy.
Jeongeup City and the City Council stated, “As the COVID-19 situation has continued for over two years, all citizens including small business owners and self-employed individuals are facing critical situations. Therefore, we will provide the Daily Life Recovery Support Fund to all citizens to stabilize their lives and revitalize the depressed local economy.”
This support fund for all citizens is a prompt measure pursued through consultation with the Jeongeup City Council by the newly inaugurated 8th term Jeongeup City government as of the 1st of last month, prioritizing livelihood stabilization and early overcoming of the COVID-19 crisis.
Regarding this, Mayor Lee approved the first policy of the 8th term on his first day in office, the 1st of last month, which included the payment of the Daily Life Recovery Support Fund and the expansion of the issuance of Jeongeup Love Gift Certificates by 40 billion KRW as part of economic stimulus measures to overcome COVID-19.
The recipients of the Daily Life Recovery Support Fund are approximately 106,400 people who continuously had their address registered in the city as of June 30, and the budget required is about 21.4 billion KRW (including personnel expenses and others) for social security benefits.
To ensure the support fund is used quickly and effectively to revitalize the local economy, it will be provided in the form of anonymous prepaid cards before the Chuseok holiday.
The prepaid cards can be used at about 4,600 affiliated stores of Jeongeup Love Gift Certificates within the region, excluding large supermarkets, entertainment businesses, and gambling industries.
The usage period is until November 30, and any unused amount after the deadline will be automatically forfeited.
Applications can be made by visiting the local eup/myeon offices and dong community centers from the 8th of this month to the 2nd of next month, over a four-week period.
The city plans to operate a five-day rotation system based on the last digit of the birth date to manage the expected large number of applicants during the application period, and will also provide a visiting payment service for citizens with mobility difficulties and severely disabled persons who find it difficult to apply in person.
The city expects that this support fund will not only stabilize the lives of citizens facing difficulties and ease household burdens but also provide significant help in revitalizing the local economy by easing the struggles of small business owners and self-employed individuals who are facing a severe crisis.
Chairman Go Kyung-yoon said, “I sincerely thank the citizens who are joining forces to overcome the crisis with mature civic consciousness and community spirit,” and added, “I hope this support will serve as a catalyst to promote consumption in local businesses and inject vitality into the local economy.”
Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “Although the Daily Life Recovery Support Fund alone cannot immediately enrich the livelihood economy, I hope it will serve as a catalyst to accelerate the recovery of daily life from the COVID-19 pandemic,” and added, “We will do our best to alleviate the management burdens of economic actors including small business owners and to support citizens’ healthy daily lives.”
