21,423 New Registrations of Imported Passenger Cars in July
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] The Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA) announced on the 3rd that the number of new registrations of imported passenger cars in July decreased by 12.2% compared to the same period last year, totaling 21,423 units. The cumulative number up to July this year was 152,432 units, down 11.5% from the same period last year.
The number of registrations by brand in July was BMW 5,490 units, Mercedes-Benz 5,456 units, Audi 1,865 units, Volkswagen 1,041 units, Volvo 1,018 units, Chevrolet 1,004 units, MINI 945 units, Ford 935 units, Toyota 612 units, Porsche 574 units, Lexus 507 units, Jeep 426 units. Following were Polestar 411 units, Honda 348 units, Land Rover 206 units, Lincoln 140 units, Peugeot 120 units, Cadillac 111 units, Bentley 95 units, Maserati 40 units, Lamborghini 30 units, Rolls-Royce 24 units, Jaguar 13 units, and DS 12 units.
By engine displacement, registrations under 2000cc were the highest at 11,488 units (53.6%). Next were 2000~3000cc under 6,497 units (30.3%), 3000cc~4000cc under 1,359 units (6.3%), over 4000cc 328 units (1.5%), and others (electric vehicles) 1,751 units (8.2%).
By country, Europe accounted for 17,340 units (80.9%), the United States 2,616 units (12.2%), and Japan 1,467 units (6.8%). By fuel type, gasoline was 10,481 units (48.9%), hybrid 5,569 units (26.0%), diesel 2,720 units (12.7%), electric 1,751 units (8.2%), and plug-in hybrid 902 units (4.2%).
By purchase type, out of 21,423 units, individual purchases were 13,119 units (61.2%) and corporate purchases were 8,304 units (38.8%). Regional registrations for individual purchases were Gyeonggi 4,100 units (31.3%), Seoul 2,713 units (20.7%), and Busan 800 units (6.1%). For corporate purchases, regional registrations were Incheon 2,930 units (35.3%), Busan 1,567 units (18.9%), and Gyeongnam 1,037 units (12.5%).
The best-selling models in July were Ford Explorer 2.3 (728 units), Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (638 units), and BMW X3 2.0 (530 units) in that order.
