Seoul City to Open Exit 2 of Gangil Station on Line 5 by the End of August
Gangil Station BF Certification to Ensure No Inconvenience for Transportation-Disadvantaged Users... Installation of Elevators and Escalators
Completion of Entrance/Exit Lines Connecting Vehicle Depot and Operation Routes, Entrance, and Station Ventilation Construction
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 3rd that, following the priority opening of exits 1, 3, and 4 of Gangil Station on Subway Line 5 in March last year for citizen convenience, exit 2 will be opened from the end of August.
Exit 2 of Gangil Station was constructed after completing all work on the ingress and egress tracks connecting the vehicle depot and operation lines, which interfered with the station ventilation structure, to ensure safety. The ingress and egress tracks are the rails through which vehicles enter and exit. Comprehensive railway tests including technical standard reviews for railway facilities on the ingress and egress tracks, facility verification tests, and operational trial runs were completed from September last year to June this year. The ingress and egress tracks were opened in June after receiving approval inspection for the railway safety management system from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Accordingly, construction of exit 2 and the ventilation shaft at Gangil Station on the extended Subway Line 5 has been completed, and elevators (24-passenger capacity) and up/down escalators have been installed at exit 2 to enable safe and convenient use by transportation-vulnerable groups such as the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women.
Additionally, to ensure no inconvenience for transportation-vulnerable users at exit 2, a Barrier-Free (BF) pedestrian environment was created, and bicycle racks and automatic air pumps were installed. Trees such as Ligustrum, White Poplar, Arrowwood, and Ginkgo, which harmonize with Beolmal Park, were planted.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan Government received BF certification review for convenience facilities for transportation-vulnerable users at Gangil Station from the Urban Architecture Division of Korea Land and Housing Corporation.
