Hwang Jun-gi, Former Vice Minister, Appointed as Yongin City Second Deputy Mayor
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Hwang Jun-gi, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, has been appointed as the 2nd Vice Mayor of Yongin City.
Yongin City announced on the 1st that it had publicly recruited the 2nd Vice Mayor position (Grade 2) last month as an open position, and after screening documents and conducting eligibility assessments (interviews) to verify job performance requirements, Hwang Jun-gi was selected as the final successful candidate.
A city official explained, "Former Vice Minister Hwang has accumulated administrative experience at the Blue House, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Gyeonggi Province, and has a wide-ranging personal network," adding, "He was evaluated as someone whose experience and human assets will contribute to the development of Yongin Special City."
He also added, "Former Vice Minister Hwang served as the chairman of the 8th Civilian Term Yongin Special City Mayor’s Transition Committee, and having thoroughly understood Mayor Lee Sang-il’s administrative vision and policies, he was judged to be suitable to assist the mayor."
Hwang, the appointee, will assume office as the 2nd Vice Mayor around mid-month after undergoing a disqualification check for new appointees.

Former Vice Minister Hwang graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Korean History and entered public service in 1980 as the 23rd class of the civil service exam. He has served as Director of the Gyeonggi Province Industrial Economy Bureau, Director of Planning and Management Office, Head of the Local Finance and Taxation Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Administrative Secretary of the Political Affairs Office at the Presidential Office, and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. He also served as president of the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization and Incheon Tourism Organization, both affiliated with the province.
