Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Selects Seoul, Busan, and Seongnam for Excellence in Urban Spatial Information Projects
[Asia Economy Reporter Tae-min Ryu] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 1st that it selected projects proposed by three local governments?Seoul, Busan, and Seongnam?in the nationwide '2022 Local Government Spatial Information Excellence Project' contest held from June 13 to July 1.
Following last year, the Spatial Information Excellence Project, conducted for the second time this year, aims to discover various local government project models that can improve administrative efficiency and user service quality related to spatial information. This contest was conducted based on the core strategies of the 6th National Spatial Information Policy Basic Plan, divided into three fields: ▲Infrastructure Construction ▲Convergence Utilization ▲Growth Cooperation, selecting excellent projects in each field. Each outstanding project receives a spatial information project subsidy of 58 million KRW.
In the Infrastructure Construction category, Seoul's project titled "Establishment of a Safety Support System for Pedestrians Using Satellite Reference Stations" was selected. This project builds spatial information for pedestrians with mobility difficulties by enhancing information related to mobility restrictions such as manholes, speed bumps, and drainage channels using the satellite navigation system (GNSS) of satellite reference stations, and develops a dedicated pedestrian navigation service program based on this information.
In the Convergence Utilization category, Busan's project "Construction of Ground Subsidence Risk Map Using CDI Model Based on Underground Facility DB" was selected. This project links the already established spatial information database of underground facilities with Busan City's self-developed Road Sinkhole Damage Index (CDI) model to build a ground subsidence risk map and a platform for map creation and utilization.
In the Growth Cooperation category, Seongnam's project "Enhancement of Safety and Efficiency in Spatial Information Production System Using Underground Survey Drones" was selected. This project uses drones to survey underground facilities such as sewage pipelines, which have a high risk of serious accidents like gas asphyxiation, builds a 3D database, and conducts regular inspections.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to establish a cooperative system with the respective local governments to monitor the projects to ensure they are successfully carried out according to the support objectives. Kang Ju-yeop, Director of the National Land Information Policy Bureau at the Ministry, stated, "Spatial information is an essential digital infrastructure for the development of new industries such as autonomous vehicles and UAM (Urban Air Mobility), and a crucial element for solving urban problems using digital twins."
