Shinsegae Simon Holds 'Guk-Cae Representative Selection' Where Customers Choose the Main Character Themselves

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Shinsegae Simon announced that from the 1st to the 10th of this month, it will hold the "Gukchae Daepyo Selection Contest" (National Character Representative Selection Contest) in collaboration with the creator commerce platform Jellycrew and the illustration exhibition Illustration Korea.
The event was planned to communicate with customers on the theme of characters recently popular among the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z), and to provide character creators with opportunities to gain public recognition and commercialization.
The Gukchae Daepyo Selection Contest is the industry's first customer participation character festival, offering the unique fun of having a character chosen by customers themselves launched into the world. The selected popular characters will later be commercialized through Jellycrew and available at online and offline stores, and will appear at an offline festival held at the premium outlet in October.
About 60 creators selected in the first round from over 300 Jellycrew creators, along with about 100 artists participating in the Illustration Korea exhibition as part of the "New Talent Discovery Project," will participate in this Gukchae Daepyo Selection Contest.
The Gukchae Daepyo Selection Contest runs from 10 a.m. today until the 10th. Customers can directly vote for their favorite characters on the Shinsegae Outlet application (app) and the Illustration Korea website. Additionally, participation is possible through likes and comments on creators' personal social media (Naver) channels. The total votes and SNS responses will be comprehensively tallied to select 10 representative characters. The results will be announced on the 16th of this month.
The selected national representative characters can be directly experienced through various products at Jellycrew's online special exhibition in September. In October, an offline festival including character exhibitions and pop-up stores will be held in the outdoor space of Shinsegae Simon Premium Outlet. Large-scale sculptures using the characters will be installed, and photo zones will be set up throughout the venue. Limited edition products will be sold at the pop-up store, and various customer experience contents such as character balloon giveaways and caricature events will be prepared on-site.

A Shinsegae Simon official said, "Through the Gukchae Daepyo Selection Contest, we plan to introduce new character marketing that communicates with customers, and in the future, we will present experiential content that offers customers unique fun and experiences through offline festivals using the selected characters at the premium outlet."
