[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunji Kwon] On the 31st, Yoon Young-seok, a member of the People Power Party, resigned from his position as a Supreme Council member. This marks the third resignation from the party leadership following members Bae Hyun-jin and Cho Soo-jin.
On the day, Yoon sent a text message to reporters stating, "The government and the ruling party must unite all their strength and work tirelessly to resolve the difficulties faced by the people, who are enduring truly tearful and painful days, pushed to the brink by the economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic."
He added, "I feel great shame and regret as a member of the party leadership that the People Power Party is currently failing to fulfill its role as the ruling party," and declared, "I humbly apologize to the people and intend to resign from my position as a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party."
He continued, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration and the People Power Party will do their best in their roles to quickly resolve the difficulties of people's livelihoods and realize the aspirations of the people, who have shown their desire for a prosperous Republic of Korea through the change of government, thereby earning the trust and support of the people."
