Typhoon 'Songda' Brings Rain to Jeju... Scorching Heat in the Capital Region

View original imageDue to the influence of the 5th typhoon 'Songda', rain is falling in Jeju and the southern coast. In areas unaffected by Songda, such as the Seoul metropolitan area, the heatwave continues.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 30th, Songda is currently passing through the distant sea south of Jeju. At 3 PM on this day, its location was 330 km east of Shanghai, China. It is expected to move north along the Chinese coast and weaken to a tropical depression around 3 AM on the 1st of next month. Afterwards, it will change direction toward Korea and be located between China and Korea. The Meteorological Administration stated, "After Songda weakens to a tropical depression, the areas receiving rain in the Seoul metropolitan area may change significantly depending on its position."
Due to Songda's influence, by 4 PM, Jeju City and Seogwipo City in Jeju recorded more than 40 mm of rain each. Especially heavy rain poured in the mountainous areas. Rain will begin in the central region on the night of the 30th or early morning of the 31st and continue until the 2nd of next month. Waves are also rising very high, especially around the Jeju sea.

On this day, in areas unaffected by Songda, most of northern Gyeonggi and parts of Gangwon Yeongseo, as well as Seoul, saw maximum temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius. In Sangpae-dong, Dongducheon-si, Gyeonggi, the daytime temperature soared to 38.2 degrees Celsius. Seoul recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1 degrees Celsius (based on Songwol-dong, Jongno-gu). Gangseo, Gangbuk, Geumcheon, Yongsan, and Yeongdeungpo districts all exceeded 37 degrees Celsius in maximum temperature.
