Sacheon-si to Provide Emergency Disaster Relief Funds to All Citizens
30,000 KRW per person payment (prepaid card), applications available from August 30
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sacheon City in Gyeongnam Province will distribute the ‘Sacheon City Emergency Disaster Relief Fund,’ the first payment since COVID-19, starting from August 30.
The support targets Sacheon citizens registered as residents in Sacheon City as of 24:00 on August 31, including permanent residents with residency status and marriage immigrants.
Additionally, to celebrate births, babies born by the application deadline of September 23 are also eligible. However, foreigners are excluded.
The application period is from August 30 to September 23, and to encourage staggered applications since the support is for all citizens, a 5-day rotation system based on the last digit of the birth year will be implemented for one week from the start date.
To accommodate dual-income couples and workers, weekend application windows will be operated, but only during the first weekend.
Citizens whose birth year ends with an odd number can apply in person on Saturday, September 3, and those whose birth year ends with an even number can apply on Sunday, September 4.
From September 14, a ‘visiting application service’ will also be provided for elderly and disabled residents with mobility difficulties.
Applications must be submitted by the head of household or household members aged 19 or older (born before August 1, 2003) by visiting the administrative welfare center in their registered residential district with identification and required documents according to eligibility.
The support amount is 300,000 KRW per person, and prepaid cards will be issued immediately upon application. The cards must be used by November 30, 2022, and any unused funds within the period will be reclaimed.
The funds can be used at small businesses affiliated with credit card merchants in the area but cannot be used at large discount stores, entertainment businesses, gambling industries, etc.
Since the support is for all citizens, the city plans to minimize inconvenience by processing applications and payments in a one-stop manner.
Mayor Park Dong-sik said, “I thank all citizens who have endured great hardship over the past two years in overcoming COVID-19,” and added, “As my first mayoral pledge, I will focus on swift and flawless execution to ensure the Sacheon City Emergency Disaster Relief Fund is distributed as soon as possible.”
