Geochang-gun to Crack Down on Violations in Electric Vehicle Charging Zones
Starting August 1, a maximum fine of 200,000 KRW will be imposed for violations
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will impose fines ranging from 100,000 to a maximum of 200,000 KRW for any violations found in all electric vehicle charging zones within the jurisdiction, including apartment complexes, starting August 1.
The enforcement targets include ▲parking of general vehicles in charging zones ▲continuing to park even after charging is complete (fast charging 1 hour, slow charging 14 hours) ▲stacking objects or parking in or around charging zones and access roads ▲using charging facilities for purposes other than charging ▲intentionally damaging charging zones and charging facilities, etc.
Following the amendment and enforcement of the Act on the Development and Promotion of Environmentally Friendly Automobiles on January 28, the scope of fines has been expanded and the authority to impose fines has been transferred from the metropolitan level to local governments.
Accordingly, the county operated a public awareness and guidance period and will begin full-scale enforcement starting August 1.
Shin Jong-ho, Director of the Environment Division, said, “As the supply of electric vehicles has recently expanded, a proper change in perception regarding the use of charging facilities is necessary, and we ask for the cooperation of all residents in establishing a proper electric vehicle charging culture.” He added, “The county will also do its best to expand infrastructure such as charging facilities.”
