At least 4 Dead in Magnitude 7.1 Earthquake on Luzon Island, Philippines
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck northern Luzon Island in the Philippines, resulting in 4 deaths.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS) and others, the strong earthquake occurred around 8:43 a.m. in Abra Province on Luzon Island.
The Philippine authorities reported that 4 people lost their lives and over 60 were injured due to the earthquake. There were also 58 landslides and damage to 173 buildings.
The Philippine government has begun search efforts in collapsed buildings and landslide areas, expecting the number of casualties to rise.

The earthquake was so powerful that it was felt even in Manila, the capital, located 300 km away. Concerned about the earthquake's impact, Philippine authorities suspended the metropolitan subway, causing severe traffic congestion. An evacuation order was also issued in the Philippine Senate.
