Suncheon-si Wins 2022 'K-Wellness Brand Award'
Proven as the Undisputed Best Healing Spot in South Korea
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 27th that it received the ‘2022 K-Wellness Brand Award’ from the Korea Wellness Industry Association.
Following its designation as Jeollanam-do’s first K-Wellness city in February, Suncheon City has proven itself as Korea’s top healing destination by winning the K-Wellness Brand Award this time.
The city has developed itself based on ecology, successfully hosting the Garden Expo in 2013 and preparing to hold the second Garden Expo next year, allowing people to experience relaxation and healing in gardens throughout the urban area.
In particular, the city set its urban vision for the 8th elected term as ‘Korea’s Ecological Capital, First-Class Suncheon,’ and projects such as creating campgrounds in harmony with nature have been highly evaluated for their future development potential in the natural forest camping sector.
The award ceremony was held at the ‘K-Wellness Food & Tourism Fair’ at the Seoul aT Center, which runs until the 28th. During the event, Suncheon City operated a booth to jointly promote the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo.
Kim Mi-ja, president of the association, said, “Congratulations to Suncheon City for receiving the K-Wellness Brand Award ahead of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo,” and added, “We will actively support Suncheon City to be widely recognized domestically and internationally as a wellness city along with the successful hosting of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo.”
Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu of Suncheon said, “Due to COVID-19, the existing tourism paradigm is rapidly shifting to wellness-centered values pursuing Well-Being, Happiness, and Fitness,” and added, “Suncheon City will create a healthy and happy city together with its citizens by adding the brand of a wellness city to the vision of Korea’s Ecological Capital, First-Class Suncheon.”
