'2022 Namhaean Cup International Yacht Regatta' Kicks Off on the 28th in Yeosu
From July 28 to August 1, 25 Vessels from 7 Countries Participate... Yeosu~Tongyeong~Busan Race Course
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] The ‘2022 Namhaean Cup International Yacht Competition’ is set to launch spectacularly in the beautiful marine tourism city of Yeosu.
Held from July 28 to August 1, this event aims for ‘mutual development of the Namhaean Coast’ and ‘pioneering new yacht routes.’
Co-hosted by Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Busan Metropolitan City, organized by the Namhaean Cup International Yacht Competition Organizing Committee, and supported by Yeosu City, Tongyeong City, and the Korea Yacht Association.
Delegations of about 350 athletes from seven countries including Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada will participate, racing with 25 splendid cruiser yachts.
In particular, the competition course from Gamak Bay in Yeosu to Donam Port in Tongyeong, Gyeongnam, and then to Suyeong Bay in Busan is expected to gain popularity as a new yacht route where participants can enjoy the pristine sea and beautiful scenery of the Namhaean Coast.
On the first day of the competition, athlete registration and participant safety education will be conducted, and on the second day, a mini yacht race will be held in Gamak Bay, Yeosu, ahead of the main races.
The third day features the first leg race from Yeosu to Tongyeong, and the fourth day the second leg race from Tongyeong to Busan.
On the final day, the closing ceremony and overall awards ceremony will be held at Suyeong Bay Haeundae in Busan, concluding all events.
A city official stated, “This competition, held in the era of the Namhaean Coast’s centrality, will be an important turning point preparing for the future of marine leisure sports,” adding, “We will do our best to prepare the event with thorough quarantine and safety management.”
