Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Investigates 20 Trillion Won Foreign Exchange Transactions of Woori and Shinhan Banks
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution has launched an investigation into large-scale foreign exchange transactions that occurred at Woori Bank and Shinhan Bank.
According to the legal community on the 25th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office recently received "investigative reference materials" related to this case from the Financial Supervisory Service and entrusted them to the International Crime Investigation Division (Chief Prosecutor Na Uk-jin) of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.
According to the materials, the Financial Supervisory Service examined companies that remitted 1.3 trillion won to China and other countries through Shinhan Bank, and companies that remitted 800 billion won overseas through Woori Bank.
The prosecution plans to verify whether these overseas remittances are being used for illegal money laundering by virtual asset speculation groups. It is known that the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office has been investigating, focusing on the fact that a key executive of one company related to this case has an address in Daegu. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office may also take over the investigation cases from the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office.
