Hyundai Motor's 'Veloster N ETCR' Wins FIA ETCR Round 5 Italy Race
Proven Performance at Electric Vehicle Competition
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Company’s Veloster N ETCR won the '2022 FIA ETCR Round 5'.
According to Hyundai on the 25th, FIA ETCR is a pure electric touring car race involving multiple manufacturers. It was established to set standards for electric vehicle racing in the full-fledged electrification era and to accelerate the transition to emission-free transportation.
The FIA ETCR event was held in Italy from the 22nd to the 24th (local time). A total of 12 drivers from pure electric racing teams, including Hyundai Veloster N ETCR, Alfa Romeo Giulia, and Cupra e-Racer, participated in this FIA ETCR competition.
At the FIA ETCR Italy event, Hyundai, led by the Veloster N ETCR, saw Mikel Azcona win the driver category.
Since last year, the FIA ETCR competition features electric race cars that remove the engine and drivetrain from conventional race cars and are equipped with electric motors with a maximum output of 500 kW and batteries with a capacity of 65 kWh.
Meanwhile, in the WTCR Round 6 held during the same period, the Elantra N TCR (domestic name: Avante N TCR) also achieved good results, raising expectations for overall victory in both the manufacturer and driver cumulative rankings following the Hungary and Spain events.
Mikel Azcona, competing with the Elantra N TCR (belonging to the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse team), earned 41 points in two final races, maintaining the top position in the driver category and showing prospects for the season championship. Norbert Michelisz, also competing with the same race car (BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse team), finished 4th in both final races.
