According to the report, Eric Smith, who came from out of town, ordered stromboli, a type of rolled pizza, at a restaurant in Scranton, Pennsylvania on the 16th of last month.
Greatly satisfied with the meal and service, he paid $13.25 (about 17,000 KRW) for the stromboli by credit card and added an extra $3,000 as a tip for the waitress Mariana Lambert.
The restaurant manager Matt Martini recalled, "When the customer was about to pay, Lambert came into the office with tears in her eyes and emotional, saying the customer left a $3,000 tip on a $13.25 meal."
Although it was a day off, another manager, Zachary Jacobson, who happened to be at the restaurant, asked Smith why he left such a large tip.
Jacobson said, "He said he was involved in cryptocurrency and just wanted to give back to society," adding, "He said he was originally from this area."
According to Jacobson, Smith wrote "Tip for Jesus" on the credit card slip.
CNN explained that this phrase appears to refer to the Instagram account name (tipsforjesus) run for years by an anonymous person who leaves large tips at restaurants.
