123 Additional CCTV Cameras Installed on Yongin Light Rail Transit
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has installed an additional 123 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to ensure the safety of passengers using the Yongin Light Rail Transit (LRT).
On the 24th, Yongin City announced that it installed additional CCTVs to cover blind spots within the railway facilities in accordance with the recently amended Article 39-3 of the Railway Safety Act (which mandates the installation of CCTV in additional areas for safety and crime prevention).
The locations where the CCTVs were installed include the Samga-dong LRT vehicle depot, as well as the waiting rooms, elevators, and unmanned control rooms of 10 stations including Gangnam University Station, City Hall-Yongin University Station, and others.
With the additional CCTV installations, it is now possible to monitor in real time whether key equipment necessary for train operation?such as track switch machines, rails, and elevator safety doors?are functioning properly, as well as to confirm that passengers are boarding and alighting safely, enabling prompt response in case of emergencies.
The city also installed 24 door opening sensors on emergency stairway doors connecting platforms and the outside. These sensors are linked to the access control system in the control room, triggering an alarm in the station office whenever a door is opened or closed.
When the alarm sounds, station staff can patrol and control the relevant area to check for any potential crimes or safety incidents, thereby enhancing safety management.
A city official stated, "We are expanding CCTV installations every year to strengthen the safety of the unmanned Yongin LRT," adding, "We will take proactive measures to prevent safety accidents and crimes."
