[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Lee Young, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry) and the Small and Medium Business Corporation (Chairman Kim Hak-do, hereinafter referred to as SBC) announced on the 24th that they are recruiting companies to participate in the second half 'G-TEP Technology Exchange Consultation' with five countries.

The overseas technology exchange project supports technology export through licensing, joint ventures, original equipment manufacturing (OEM), and facility transfer by matching domestic companies with excellent proprietary technology and overseas companies seeking technology transfer.

The target countries for the second half technology exchange are a total of five countries. Four countries?India, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and China?will hold an online consultation for four days from October 20 via a metaverse platform, and Mexico plans to dispatch a local technology exchange delegation in November. One-on-one consultations will be conducted by matching domestic companies with excellent technology and overseas companies seeking technology transfer.

Approximately 10 companies per country will be recruited, and companies can apply for up to two countries simultaneously. After a technology diagnosis by a technology commercialization coordinator for the applying companies, participation will be decided through verification of matching success with the respective countries.

In addition, this consultation selects key fields with high technology demand by country for recruitment. ▲India focuses on health tech, electric vehicles, and renewable energy; ▲Mongolia on IT, bio, eco-friendly, medical devices, and new construction technologies; ▲Kazakhstan on cosmetics, beauty devices, and other medical supplies; ▲China on medical devices, bio, and high-speed rail; and ▲Mexico on automobiles, food, medical devices, machinery, and metal processing.

After the consultation, SBC will continue to support participating companies by providing customized assistance such as contract legal review and interpretation services twice within the year, with a limit of 3 million KRW per session, to help generate tangible results.

The Ministry and SBC have been operating the overseas technology exchange project since 2017 to support technology export by SMEs and startups. In 2021, a total of 40 consultations were held, matching 376 domestic companies with 1,617 overseas companies from 21 countries, resulting in 19 technology contracts worth 8.66 billion KRW and 123 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) for technology exchange.
