Van Gogh's Masterpieces Viewed Through AR (Augmented Reality)
[Seoul District News] Six AR Mural Works Including Gogh's Sunflowers Installed at Ok-in Childcare Harmony Center in Jongno-gu, Open from 27th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (Mayor Jeong Munheon) will provide children and adolescents with opportunities to experience media art at the Ogin Childcare Harmony Center (36 Jahamun-ro 17-gil) starting from the 27th.
In the program room within the center that supports home caregivers, AR (Augmented Reality) murals that appear to come to life have been installed, allowing users to enjoy culture and arts in more diverse ways.
AR (Augmented Reality) is a computer graphics technique that synthesizes virtual objects or information into the real environment so that they appear as if they originally exist.
The six AR murals installed this time include works combining Van Gogh's Sunflowers with trick art, a self-portrait of Van Gogh introducing himself, and a painting depicting a rowing boat using the wall and floor.
Anyone can download the mobile app ‘SpongeAR’ and hold their phone up to the murals to experience vivid AR murals, with photo and video recording available. No reservation or fee is required; visitors can come to the Ogin Childcare Harmony Center from Wednesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This installation was supported by Jogyesa Temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism (Chief Monk Ji-hyeon). In June, Jogyesa decided to sponsor the Ogin mural project so that local children could experience AR technology representing the 4th industrial revolution.
Opened on April 5 this year, the Ogin Childcare Harmony Center embodies Jongno-gu’s commitment to creating a community where it is good to have and raise children by providing high-quality childcare services.
Built in a traditional Hanok style to add uniqueness, the center has one basement floor and two above-ground floors, consisting of a ‘program room,’ ‘co-parenting room,’ and ‘toy library.’ Following the Jongno-gu Childcare Support Center in Myeongnyun-dong and the Toy Library in Changsin-dong, it is establishing itself as a childcare hub representing the western area of Jongno.
