Gyeongbuk Office of Education, Locks Down Safety Accidents!
Real-time Industrial Safety and Health Online Training Conducted for Local School Meal Workers
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to conduct "real-time industrial safety and health video training" for about 4,500 meal service workers working at over 1,000 public and private educational institutions and schools in the province from the 27th to the 29th.
According to the full revision of the Industrial Safety and Health Act (January 16, 2020), on-site workers affiliated with the Gyeongbuk Office of Education (such as meal service workers and facility management staff) must complete 6 hours of "industrial safety and health education" quarterly.
However, meal service workers have faced many difficulties in safety and health education due to lack of training time caused by the COVID-19 situation and the busy work conditions of school meals, as well as a lack of instructor expertise.
Accordingly, the Office of Education planned this training after the labor-management committee unanimously agreed on the necessity of safety and health education for meal service workers through the Industrial Safety and Health Committee in December last year.
To fulfill the legally required quarterly training hours and reduce the burden of safety and health education on schools, the training time was set to 6 hours. They plan to resolve questions about industrial safety and health that are usually raised at school sites by receiving support from safety and health professional instructors from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency.

Kim Dongsik, Director of Safety, said, "Since accidents caused by humans (human error) account for more than 85% of all accidents, industrial safety and health education is the foundation for preventing safety accidents. The Gyeongbuk Office of Education will develop various educational programs and expand quality training opportunities by job type to firmly lock the gate against safety accidents."
