Park Geun-o, Head of Jeju Fire Headquarters, Conducts On-site Inspection at Moseulpo Port
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Park Geun-o, head of the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters, visited Moseulpo Port in Seogwipo City on the 21st to conduct an on-site inspection related to the recent emergency safety inspections of ports and harbors in the province following ship fires at Seongsan Port and Hallim Port.
The Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters announced on the 22nd that it is conducting a full survey of all fire safety facilities and equipment installed at 109 ports and harbors in the province by organizing a joint inspection team with related organizations until the 12th of next month.
By the 15th, priority inspections were completed for six ports and harbors where ships are berthed closely, including Jeju Port, and from the 18th until the 12th of next month, inspections are being conducted on the remaining 103 locations.
During this on-site inspection, the focus was on checking the proper maintenance of various safety facilities, the presence of any abnormalities in components, and the overall condition of the facilities.
Fire prevention safety education and opinion gathering were also conducted with port and harbor officials such as the Fisheries Cooperative to discuss measures for prompt response in case of similar incidents.
Park Geun-o, head of the Fire Safety Headquarters, stated, “In response to the recent consecutive ship fires, we will promptly complete inspections of fire safety facilities and equipment at ports and harbors and immediately address any deficiencies to ensure thorough management. We will also make every effort to strengthen response capabilities through regular joint fire drills and fire prevention education for related personnel.”
