"Summer Season, Beware of Elevator Entrapment and Explosion Accidents" ... Ulsan Fire Department Analyzes 15 Years of Dispatch Data
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] In the Ulsan area, it has been found that there is a high risk of elevator entrapment, explosion accidents, and drowning accidents during the summer season.
The Ulsan Fire Headquarters analyzed the Ulsan fire activity statistics from the 'Fire Safety Big Data Platform' over the past 15 years, from 2005 to 2020, and these results were revealed.
According to the analysis, elevator entrapment occurred most frequently in summer with 1,663 cases (30.0%), followed by autumn with 1,553 cases, winter with 1,197 cases, and spring with 1,131 cases.
Explosion accidents occurred in summer with 32 cases (38.5%), spring with 25 cases, autumn with 17 cases, and winter with 9 cases. Drowning accidents occurred in summer with 701 cases (46.5%), autumn with 369 cases, spring with 263 cases, and winter with 174 cases.
Requests for bee hive removal reached 18,894 cases (67.1%) and emergency treatment for heat-related illnesses involved 1,181 people (97%), both surging during the summer season.
The Fire Headquarters attributes the causes of summer accidents to mechanical defects caused by high humidity and frequent rain for elevator entrapment accidents, and to rising temperatures for explosion accidents.
The 'Fire Safety Big Data Platform' was established by the National Fire Agency in May last year, and the Ulsan Fire Headquarters provides data such as dispatch status and chemical information so that the general public can use it effectively in the fire industry and research fields.
Jung Byung-do, Chief of Ulsan Fire Headquarters, said, “We will make every effort to strengthen on-site response capabilities by utilizing fire big data to analyze daily life safety accidents and establish prevention policies.”
To prevent explosion accidents, it is necessary to comply with safety rules such as ▲ confirming the normal operation of exhaust and ventilation facilities ▲ adhering to the mixed storage standards of hazardous materials warehouses ▲ maintaining appropriate temperatures ▲ prohibiting the use of products that generate static electricity in places where flammable vapors are likely to accumulate.
To prevent bee sting accidents, avoid wearing bright-colored clothes and refrain from using irritating perfumes when going outdoors, and if a beehive is discovered, do not attempt to remove it forcibly but report it to 119.
