Hyundai Motor Group Achieves First Place in 7 Vehicle Categories in J.D. Power Product Satisfaction Survey
Among Global Automotive Groups, the Most Best-in-Class Models Produced
Genesis Ranks 2nd in Brand Overall Results
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hyundai Motor Group has demonstrated its world-class product competitiveness by achieving the highest number of segment wins in the U.S. New Vehicle Experience Study.
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 22nd that a total of seven models ranked first in their respective segments in the '2022 New Vehicle Experience Study' released by U.S. market research firm J.D. Power.
Now in its 27th year, the J.D. Power New Vehicle Experience Study was conducted through customer surveys three months after purchase, targeting vehicles sold in the U.S. from November last year to February this year.
The study notably emphasizes emotional factors such as interior and exterior styling, driving performance, infotainment convenience, safety, and economy. Scores are based on a 1,000-point scale, with higher scores indicating greater product satisfaction.
In this survey, Hyundai ranked first in the mid-large sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment with the Palisade (877 points) and in the mid-size pickup segment with the Santa Cruz (844 points). Kia secured first place in the minivan segment with the Carnival (857 points), in the small SUV segment with the EV6 (890 points), and in the mid-size segment with the K5 (877 points).
Genesis took first place in the mid-large premium segment with the G80 (878 points) and in the small premium SUV segment with the GV70 (890 points).
By having seven models ranked first in their respective segments, Hyundai Motor Group produced the most top-ranked models among global automotive groups. Following Hyundai Motor Group were BMW Group, Stellantis, and Nissan, each with three models.
This achievement is particularly meaningful as Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis were each selected as number one in the highly competitive mid-large SUV, minivan, and mid-large premium segments in the U.S. automotive market.
Notably, in the mid-large SUV segment where the Palisade ranked first, Kia's Telluride came in second, and in the small SUV segment, the Ioniq 5 followed the EV6 in second place, highlighting Hyundai and Kia's strong presence across key segments.
In the overall brand results, Genesis scored 886 points, improving by 7 points compared to last year. It maintained second place among premium brands, showcasing top-tier product competitiveness. Genesis outperformed the premium brand average of 872 points by 14 points.
Genesis also ranked first among premium brands in J.D. Power’s durability and initial quality studies released in February and June this year. Kia rose one rank to fifth place among general brands with a total score of 849 points. Hyundai maintained seventh place with 846 points, the same as last year.
A Hyundai Motor Group official stated, "Having seven models ranked first is the result of continuously pursuing various activities to satisfy customers from the early stages of product development. We will continue to strive to be recognized by customers for value across all aspects of vehicle performance and quality."
