[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has finally stepped down. President Sergio Mattarella declared the dissolution of parliament, and the unprecedented early autumn general election will be held on September 25.
According to AP News and others, President Mattarella announced the dissolution of parliament and the holding of an early autumn general election in a national address on the evening of the 21st (local time). The election date is set for September 25.
This follows Prime Minister Draghi's renewed intention to resign that morning and his submission of a resignation letter to President Mattarella. President Mattarella accepted it and requested that he maintain his position for the time being to prevent a government vacuum. After meeting with the chairs of the upper and lower houses, he signed the decree dissolving parliament.

The current parliament's term is until the first half of next year. However, due to the dissolution, an autumn general election will be held for the first time in Italian constitutional history. It is expected that there will be inevitable disruptions to the establishment of next year's budget, which was scheduled for autumn. Until the general election, the Draghi administration will operate as a caretaker government.
