Suwon Nambu Fire Station Wins 'Best Award' in Drone Competition
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Suwon Nambu Fire Station in Gyeonggi-do won the grand prize at the Firefighting Drone Competition.
The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 21st that Suwon Nambu Fire Station won the grand prize at the '2022 Gyeonggi-do Firefighting Drone Competition' held on the 20th at the Gyeonggi-do Fire School in Yongin.
On the day of the competition, eight teams (16 members) from nine fire stations, including Suwon Nambu Fire Station, participated.
The competition involved teams of two members?a pilot and a co-pilot?who flew drones within a 10-minute time limit. They were comprehensively evaluated on professional flying skills, obstacle navigation, safe flight (maintaining specific altitude, speed, and landing), mission execution (recognition of letters, numbers, and drawing boards), and flight time to determine the winners.
The grand prize was awarded to Suwon Nambu Fire Station (pilot Firefighter Yoon Jae-yeon, co-pilot Fire Sergeant Seo Dong-hyuk). The excellence award went to Namyangju and Guri Fire Stations (Fire Sergeant Choi Seung-hyun, Firefighter Kim Young-ha), and the encouragement award was given to Siheung Fire Station (Firefighter Kim Ha-won, Fire Corporal Ahn Seong-ho).
The teams that won the grand prize and excellence award will represent Gyeonggi-do at the National Drone Competition hosted by the Fire Agency in October.

A Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters official stated, "As the role of drones in various firefighting fields continues to grow, we plan to actively utilize drones at various disaster sites," adding, "We will do our best to strengthen the response system through digital capabilities by reinforcing advanced equipment, including drones."
