President Yoon on Summer Vacation Question: "I Heard He Went to Jeodo... Because of Daewoo Shipbuilding"
President's Villa on Jeodo, Concerned About Proximity to Strike Site
Presidential Office "No Decision on Vacation Yet"
Regarding Park Hong-geun's Speech, "Does President Need to Respond to Opposition Politician's Remarks?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol mentioned on the 21st regarding his first summer vacation plan since taking office, saying, "I am watching how to proceed because of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (subcontractor strike)."
On the morning of the same day, while on his way to the Yongsan Presidential Office, President Yoon was asked by reporters about his first summer vacation plan during his term. He paused briefly and said, "Well, if various difficult situations are resolved..." then added, "Originally, (former presidents) have continuously gone to Jodo in Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do for summer vacations, but since it is Geoje Island... I am thinking about it," making this remark.
Jodo is a small island with an area of about 430,000㎡ located in Yuho-ri, Jangmok-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. Former President Park Chung-hee officially designated it as a presidential villa in 1972, and it has been used as a summer retreat for presidents.
Initially, presidential office officials expected President Yoon's summer vacation to be during the first week of next month. However, due to the piled-up urgent issues responding to the economic recession and the prolonged strike at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering's Okpo Shipyard near the presidential villa, it has become difficult for President Yoon to take a vacation easily.
Furthermore, regarding the Daewoo Shipbuilding subcontractor union strike, President Yoon reiterated, "Resolving that illegal activity quickly and normalizing the situation is what all citizens want, and doing so benefits everyone."
Kang In-seon, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, stated at the regular briefing that day, "There is no decision yet on whether President Yoon will take a vacation or where he will go. President Yoon is someone who works hard when working and thinks to rest fully during vacation, but right now, the situation does not allow it."
A key official from the Presidential Office responded to the question of whether the vacation spot was confirmed as Jodo by saying, "The places where the president can spend his vacation are very limited. Among a few places, there is Jodo, which former presidents often visited," indicating that President Yoon's vacation spot has not yet been decided as Jodo.
Regarding the speech by Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, at the National Assembly negotiation group session the previous day, President Yoon avoided a direct response, saying, "Is it necessary for the president to comment on the remarks of an opposition politician?"

In his speech the previous day, Floor Leader Park warned, "Corruption involving the president's family, relatives, and close aides causes not only the regime's downfall but also the nation's misfortune," adding, "The state affairs manipulation by Choi Soon-sil, a non-official power who paralyzed the Blue House's official system during the Park Geun-hye administration, led to the unprecedented impeachment of a president in constitutional history."
