Yoon: "We Need More Star Ministers... Please Share Values and Policies with the People" (Update)
Ministers Emphasize 'Communication with the People'... "Just as Chairman Lee Kun-hee Produced Star CEOs, We Hope for Star Ministers to Emerge"
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] On the 19th, President Yoon Seok-yeol stated, "The president and star ministers should become one team to run the government." He emphasized the importance of communication, implying that ministers should actively promote policies and appear frequently in the media.
At the Cabinet meeting held at the Yongsan Presidential Office building that morning, President Yoon said, "It's fine if people say only the ministers are visible and the president is not. I hope many star ministers will emerge."
In particular, President Yoon mentioned the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee, saying, "Chairman Lee himself stepped back but produced many star CEOs. By doing so, he greatly contributed to increasing corporate value." Accordingly, President Yoon urged, "Whether they do well or not, they should appear frequently," and requested, "Please share the values and policies that the new government holds more often with the people."
Spokesperson Kang In-seon explained to reporters in the afternoon that President Yoon's remarks meant, "He wants to share with the people various themes such as freedom, the constitution, human rights, the rule of law, solidarity with the international community, solidarity with the vulnerable, and other topics mentioned in the president's inaugural speech." She added, "By more frequently sharing the common language and philosophy our government shares, as well as the national agendas pursued by each ministry, we hope the public can better understand what we are doing and what the new government is focusing on."

Meanwhile, the Presidential Office also released a position on the launch of the North Korean Human Rights Foundation. Spokesperson Kang stated, "The North Korean Human Rights Foundation is a key organization for implementing the North Korean Human Rights Act enacted in 2016, but the previous government showed a passive attitude, and the National Assembly has not recommended foundation directors, so it has not yet been launched." She continued, "We plan to strongly request cooperation from both ruling and opposition parties to recommend foundation directors once the National Assembly's organization is completed," and added, "We are also considering appointing government personnel first." Earlier that day, at the Cabinet meeting, President Yoon approved the appointment of Professor Lee Shin-hwa of Korea University's Department of Political Science and Diplomacy as the International Cooperation Ambassador for North Korean Human Rights.
