Treasury Secretary Yellen Meets Governor Lee Chang-yong: "Honored to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation"

View original imageLee Chang-yong, Governor of the Bank of Korea, and Janet Yellen, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, met on the 19th and pledged to enhance economic cooperation between South Korea and the United States.
Governor Lee personally welcomed Secretary Yellen at 1:25 p.m. at the Bank of Korea headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul. Secretary Yellen, wearing a blue jacket, stepped out of the car with a smile and approached Governor Lee, who said, "Thank you for visiting us."
Secretary Yellen said, "We are honored to discuss and strengthen cooperation between South Korea and the United States. The two countries share diverse values and have a highly overlapping economic relationship."
She added, "We hope to continue enhancing this relationship going forward."
After taking photos, Governor Lee and Secretary Yellen held a private discussion for about 30 minutes on recent global economic and financial market conditions and global policy coordination.
This visit marks the first time in about six years that a U.S. Secretary of the Treasury has visited the Bank of Korea since Secretary Jacob Lew in June 2016.
From the U.S. Treasury, Didem Nisanci, Chief; David Lipton, Advisor; Andy Baukol, Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs; and Robert Kaproth, Director of the Asia Office at the U.S. Treasury, accompanied Secretary Yellen.
