Incheon Airport Adds COVID-19 Testing Center at Terminal 2
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Incheon International Airport Corporation has additionally established a COVID-19 testing center at Incheon International Airport Terminal 2.
The corporation announced on the 19th that since the 15th, it has been operating a COVID-19 testing center on the east side of Terminal 2 at Incheon Airport. The newly opened testing center is dedicated exclusively to arrival testing and operates 24 hours a day, year-round. The operation is managed by Ewon Medical Foundation.
As a result, Incheon Airport now has a total of four COVID-19 testing centers, two at each terminal. Both terminals have secured systems that allow 24-hour arrival testing.
The corporation plans to enhance passenger convenience at Incheon Airport by early expanding testing infrastructure within the airport in preparation for the full recovery of air travel demand in the post-COVID-19 era.
In particular, following the recent government announcement on measures to respond to the resurgence of COVID-19, the ‘PCR test within 3 days after arrival’ required for overseas arrivals has been strengthened to a ‘PCR test on day 1’ starting from the 25th.
As the demand for COVID-19 testing is expected to increase, the corporation believes that the additional opening of this arrival-only testing center will greatly help not only in improving passenger convenience but also in implementing government policies. Furthermore, starting in August, through close consultations with related agencies, the corporation plans to partially reduce COVID-19 testing costs to alleviate the financial burden of overseas travel for the public.
To prevent the spread of infectious diseases domestically, the corporation established the first COVID-19 testing center for departing passengers at Terminal 2 in December 2020, the first of its kind at a domestic airport.
Additionally, in the third quarter of last year, two more testing centers were opened at Terminal 1, and to date, a total of three testing centers have been operated. Since then, Incheon Airport’s COVID-19 testing centers have actively supported the government’s Korea-Singapore travel safety zone for the recovery of international air travel demand by adding arrival-only testing facilities and reinforcing specialized personnel, significantly contributing to improving travel convenience for domestic and international passengers despite the COVID-19 spread last year.
