Seoul National University Graduate Student Steals Taxi and Drives Drunk in Intoxicated State
Caught Stealing from Convenience Store While Taxi Driver Stepped Away... Apprehended During Escape Attempt
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A Seoul National University graduate student was arrested by the police for stealing and driving a taxi while intoxicated, causing an accident.
Seoul Gwanak Police Station announced on the 19th that they have booked Mr. A on charges of theft and violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and are currently investigating.
Mr. A is suspected of stealing a taxi that was briefly stopped near the rear gate intersection of Seoul National University in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, around 6:40 a.m. that day, causing a drunk driving accident and fleeing the scene. It is known that Mr. A is currently enrolled in the graduate school of Seoul National University.
At the time of arrest, Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was found to be at the level warranting license cancellation.
Mr. A stole the car while the taxi driver briefly entered a convenience store leaving the car key in the vehicle, hit a nearby curb while fleeing, abandoned the vehicle, and was later caught by the police.

A police official said, "The suspect has not yet been interrogated," and added, "We plan to investigate the motive for the crime."
