The newly published booklet is a cucumber smart greenhouse operation cultivation manual that includes essential content for smart operation such as greenhouse and environmental control, sensor usage, crop physiology, and hydroponic cultivation techniques.
Recently, agriculture incorporating Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, known as Smart Farm, is emerging as an alternative that can attract young farmers and stimulate investment in the entire agricultural industry chain.
Additionally, Smart Farms can convert seasonal labor into year-round labor, promoting the corporatization of agriculture and potentially reversing the declining and aging farming population that has led to stagnation in agriculture.
However, currently developed Smart Farm technologies require not only automated facility control technologies but also a fundamental understanding of crop cultivation to operate effectively.
Cucumbers are a highly profitable crop among agricultural products, with the Baekdadagi variety being a forced cultivation type planted around October and harvested until June of the following year, accounting for 70% of winter production.
Sangju City is recognized as the representative production area within the province.
This booklet was published as a result of the project "Development of High Productivity Greenhouse Environment Monitoring and Control Technology," part of the Smart Farm Multi-Ministry Package Innovation Technology Development project.
The Agricultural Research and Extension Services is focusing research on cucumber cultivation to develop optimal environmental control package technologies for stable year-round production.
