Hyundai Doosan Infracore announced on the 19th that it recently signed a "Digital Twin Smart Construction Site Establishment Mutual Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)" with Ssangyong Construction at its global research and development (R&D) center headquarters in Dong-gu, Incheon. Digital twin technology creates a virtual twin of real-world objects in a simulated environment to simulate construction sites and predict outcomes. The goal of the MOU is to standardize BIM (3D design) for smart earthwork design and construction management and to conduct on-site demonstrations based on digital twin technology.
Ssangyong Construction will build a digital twin site based on BIM design and construction and provide a testbed. It plays the role of creating a stage to demonstrate Hyundai Doosan Infracore’s various smart construction technologies. Hyundai Doosan Infracore will link and advance the digital twin site to the cloud-based integrated smart construction platform "SiteCloud" to verify the effectiveness of smart control, equipment automated construction, and safety technologies.
According to the global market research firm ZMR, the smart construction BIM market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 19.7%, from $5.41 billion in 2020 to $22.87 billion in 2028. Although the industry is promising, the reality for earthwork contractors was different. Each site environment, design, and information varied, and uncertainties were high, making it difficult to develop and apply smart construction technologies like BIM. This is why the two companies decided to develop core smart earthwork technologies and secure market leadership.
