Following the nationwide recruitment and evaluation of regional chairpersons for 253 regions starting from the 22nd of last month, on the 6th, Assemblyman Song Gap-seok was approved as the regional chairperson by the Supreme Council, which received delegated authority from the Central Party's Executive Committee.
On the 11th, the 1st Steering Committee meeting was held, and a preparatory chairman was appointed to prepare for the regional delegate conference. Subsequently, an ex officio Executive Committee was formed according to the party constitution and regulations.
Thereafter, the ex officio Executive Committee, composed of the preparatory chairman, steering committee members, Dong Association presidents, and local councilors, functioned as the Regional Delegate Conference Preparatory Committee and began recruiting elected regional delegates and national delegates.
Additionally, elected regional delegates were selected using the methods prescribed by the party constitution and regulations, and tasks such as reviewing and selecting elected national delegates, appointing elected executive committee members, and agenda selection were carried out.
On this day, the Seo-gu Gap Regional Committee completed the appointment of elected executive committee members and the election of national delegates through the delegate conference, finalizing organizational restructuring and maintenance work.
Out of 133 registered delegates, 100 attended.
The executive committee members were finalized at 27 to facilitate smooth meeting proceedings after reviewing the list recommended at the 1st Executive Committee meeting on the 16th.
Additionally, 39 elected national delegates were selected.
Assemblyman Song Gap-seok said, “I started as an assemblyman with the thought of becoming Gwangju’s civil affairs chief, and this is already the third delegate conference I have held,” adding, “My belief that the Democratic Party will win from Gwangju remains unchanged.”
He continued, “Currently, the Democratic Party is facing a crisis,” and emphasized, “We must break free from the tiresome defeats, win the general election in two years, and regain the administration in five years.”
He also explained, “The new leadership formed at the upcoming August 28 party convention must fulfill that role. Although I am insufficient, I ran for the Supreme Council because there is a consensus that the voice of Honam, where the desire for reform and the aspiration to reclaim the administration are strongest, must be included.”
