Gwangjin-gu Selected for 'Small Business Complex Support Center' Project with Total Investment of 4 Billion KRW... Junggok-dong Apparel Sewing Cluster to Take a Step Forward
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has been finally selected for the ‘Small-scale Manufacturers Complex Support Center Construction and Operation Project’ announced by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, securing a total project budget of 4 billion KRW.
The ‘Small-scale Manufacturers Complex Support Center Construction and Operation Project’ is a project to establish a complex support center within an urban small-scale manufacturers cluster area that can provide one-stop support from product planning, design, product development, to exhibition and sales.
An ‘urban small-scale manufacturers cluster area’ refers to a region designated by the Minister of SMEs and Startups upon application by the local government head, where the number of urban small-scale manufacturers in the same industry exceeds the administrative district standard (more than 50 neighborhoods in a special city) according to the Special Act on Support for Urban Small-scale Manufacturers.
The selected area this time is the clothing sewing cluster in Junggok-dong (districts 1 to 4), where 509 sewing companies are gathered.
The complex support center is planned to be installed within the Junggok-dong cluster area with a total size of 130 pyeong (approximately 429.75 square meters), reflecting the demands of small sewing business owners, and will include ▲cutting room (CAD, CAM) ▲shared workshop (sewing equipment) ▲education and development room ▲exhibition room and studio.
The budget includes 900 million KRW from the national government, 1.9 billion KRW from the city government, and an additional 1.2 billion KRW from the district government, totaling 4 billion KRW.
The support contents include ▲providing free cutting services using automated equipment to improve productivity ▲training specialized sewing garment personnel and developing a joint brand to increase work orders ▲encouraging organization and collaboration among sewing workers ▲enhancing competitiveness of the sewing industry and revitalizing the cluster area.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “The sewing industry is the number one core manufacturing industry in Gwangjin-gu. Through the selection in this public project, we expect that the stagnant clothing sewing industry will once again become the center of the local economy.”
