[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-ho] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on Saturday the 16th that it appointed Choi Seok-ho, a member of the California State Assembly in the United States, as Yeosu City’s ambassador in the mayor’s office.
The city explained that it delivered the appointment letter, judging that Assemblyman Choi, who has been actively engaged in legislative activities in the United States, is the right person to contribute to promoting the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo and attracting foreign tourists.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong said, “I expect Assemblyman Choi Seok-ho to play a significant role in helping Yeosu, a maritime city and a hub city on the southern coast, develop into a global marine tourism city beyond Korea.”
In response, Assemblyman Choi said, “As an ambassador for Yeosu City, I will take the lead in promoting the beautiful city of Yeosu throughout the United States,” and expressed his gratitude to National Assembly members Joo Cheol-hyun and Kim Hoe-jae, who were present at the event.
During the subsequent meeting, discussions followed regarding the signing of an international sister city MOU between Irvine City in California and Yeosu City and the promotion of friendship.
He also requested support and promotion from the Americas region, including California, Los Angeles, and the Korean community, for the successful hosting of the “2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo,” the world’s first expo themed on islands.
Meanwhile, Choi Seok-ho, a member of the California State Assembly visiting Korea to strengthen Korea-US friendship, held a meeting at the Yeosu City Council on the 17th, toured major tourist sites, and concluded his visit to Yeosu.
