"Half-Price Sale on Simple Summer Health Foods for Chobok"... Major Mart's Signature Event
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] The distribution industry is focusing on securing customers at the final stage through up to 50% discounts on flagship products during the weekend that includes Chobok, the first of the three hottest days of summer.
According to the distribution industry on the 16th, large supermarkets lowered prices by securing large quantities through advance contracts. Emart has been offering a 40% discount on major Chobok products such as fresh chicken and live abalone for two weeks starting from the 14th. Emart selected fresh food products with high seasonal demand as the 'lowest price for two weeks' items. The purpose is to reduce living expenses by lowering prices of products that customers frequently purchase and whose prices tend to rise sharply in a short period. Emart stated, "Major fresh food products can be sold cheaply by securing large quantities in advance through contract farming, and even if overall crop conditions are poor due to drought and monsoon rains, supply can be maintained."
Fresh chicken, which sees a surge in demand before and after Boknal (the hottest days), is sold at a 40% discount when paid with event cards. The prepared quantity is 200,000 packs, four times the average monthly sales in June. Emart started adjusting shipment volumes three months before Chobok and doubled the quantity compared to last year by bulk purchasing to secure price competitiveness. Abalone is sold at a 20% discount when Shinsegae points are accumulated as part of a seafood consumption promotion event jointly held with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. An additional 25% discount is available when paying with event cards.
Lotte Mart is holding various discounts on aquatic and livestock products under the theme of 'A Nourishing Meal for Our Family' until the 20th. Lotte Mart partnered with Wando Abalone Co., Ltd. to plan a nourishing seafood fair for Chobok to stabilize prices and secure sales channels for fishermen. Discounts (up to 10,000 KRW per person per event card payment) are added through the seafood fair event held with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. During the event, at all Lotte Mart stores, customers can purchase 'Wando live abalone' large size 5 pieces and medium size 10 pieces at event prices when paying with the seafood fair event card. Various nourishing seafood such as 'Miryang cleaned freshwater eel,' 'one boiled octopus,' and 'cleaned octopus' are sold at affordable prices. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries seafood fair discount applies only to abalone, eel, squid, and anchovy.
'Animal Welfare Baeksuk Chicken' (1kg) for Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) is also offered at event prices. Lotte Mart explained that animal welfare chicken prices have risen less than native chicken and Samgyetang this year, and the quality is excellent, making it a perfect product for Chobok meals.
Homeplus is also holding a 'Super Savings Chobok Event' until the 20th, offering discounts on major products. Until the 17th, ingredients for 'home-cooked nourishing meals' are offered at discounted prices. All fresh chicken products are sold at up to 40% discount when paid with event cards. Various seafood that helps restore energy are also available. As part of the 'Korea Seafood Fair' held jointly with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, domestically produced Japanese eel is sold at half price for My Homeplus membership members, and Wando abalone (medium and extra-large) is sold at half price for Shinhan and Samsung card customers. On the 16th and 17th, all types of Nonghyup safe Korean beef grilling cuts are sold at up to 50% discount when paid with event cards.
Until the 20th, imported meat is offered at discounts for My Homeplus membership members. Canadian pork belly and neck cuts are discounted up to 40%, Australian lamb French rack and shoulder rack 20%, and frozen LA-style short ribs (U.S. and Australian beef) are discounted by 5,000 KRW each. Seven types of easy nourishing meals are sold with up to 3,000 KRW discount when paid with event cards. Seasonal summer fruits are also offered at up to 50% discount when paid with event cards.
