China's Warning to Biden: "The Middle East Is Nobody's Backyard"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The Chinese government criticized U.S. President Joe Biden, who visited the Middle East and emphasized American leadership in the region, stating that "the people of the Middle East are the masters of the Middle East, the Middle East is no one's backyard, and there is no so-called 'vacuum (hegemonic vacuum)."
Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a briefing on the 15th that there should be no vacuum for Russia and China to push into the Middle East, responding to President Biden's remarks emphasizing U.S. leadership. He added, "What the people of the Middle East desire most is development, and what they need most is security."
Spokesperson Wang stated that the international community should help resolve the two issues of development and security in the Middle East, adding, "China hopes to supply more positive energy together with the international community to realize peaceful development in the Middle East."
