SC Group Leader Visiting Korea Gives Career Advice to Domestic University Students

[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] The head of the global financial group Standard Chartered (SC) visited Korea and offered career advice to domestic university students.
On the 15th, SC First Bank announced that Jos? Vi?als, Chairman of the SC Group Board of Directors, who is visiting Korea, conducted an 'Untact (non-face-to-face) Future Planning Mentoring' session for about 20 domestic university students the day before. This was a direct participation by Chairman Jos?, a top figure in the global financial group, in the social contribution education program 'Youth First Project,' which aims to foster entrepreneurship and strengthen young people's employment and start-up capabilities.
During the mentoring event held online that day, Chairman Jos? encouraged Korean youth facing employment difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic and global economic recession, and gave advice on their future planning. He explained his experiences from being an economics professor in academia, to serving as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Spain and Director of the Monetary and Capital Markets Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and finally becoming Chairman of the Board of the global bank SC Group.
He particularly introduced various trials and errors, important turning points, key decision-making as a global financial leader, and his life philosophy. During the Q&A session, he responded to the interests of the MZ (Millennial + Z) generation, such as establishing a proper economic perspective, the relationship between investment and the environment, and the importance of leadership.
Ryu Minyoung (22), who participated in the mentoring, said, "While preparing for employment in a financial company, receiving direct mentoring from the chairman of a global financial group was very helpful," and added, "The advice that the most impressive was to have leadership that is humane, humble, and passionate regardless of my position."

Chairman Jos? said, "To become the protagonist of the future, courage to challenge change and a positive attitude that does not fear failure are important," and added, "As uncertainty increases, new opportunities also open up, so never forget the attitude of learning and maintain intellectual curiosity in various fields such as science and technology, economy, and society."
