Goheung-gun Promotes 'Support Project for Marriage Immigrant Women's Visits to Their Parental Homes'
20 Families Selected This Year, Up to 3 Million KRW per Family for Airfare and Domestic Transportation Costs Support
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it will resume the 'Support Project for Married Immigrant Women's Visits to Their Hometowns,' which had been suspended due to COVID-19, and will implement it from July after three years.
The support recipients were selected from married immigrants who have not been able to visit their hometowns for more than three years due to economic burdens, considering factors such as the date of their last visit to their hometown, income level, and year of entry. A total of 20 families were chosen, including 14 families from Vietnam and 3 families from Cambodia.
The selected recipients will receive support for airfare and domestic transportation costs up to 3 million KRW and will be able to freely visit their home countries until November this year.
The Support Project for Married Immigrant Women's Visits to Their Hometowns has been implemented since 2011 to soothe the homesickness of married immigrant women who have been unable to visit their hometowns for a long time due to economic difficulties and to help them settle stably in the local community. So far, a total of 172 families have visited their hometowns through this program.
A Goheung-gun official stated, "The hometown visit support project provides an opportunity to improve family relationships by helping the emotional stability of married immigrant women settled in Goheung-gun and fostering cultural understanding of the countries of their mothers and wives," adding, "We plan to further expand the project for immigrant women's visits to their hometowns."
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun operates Korean language education, interpretation and translation services, employment and entrepreneurship training, and the Together Happiness School to support the stable settlement of multicultural families. Additionally, to enable multicultural families to receive diverse and systematic family-tailored services in a comfortable environment, the 'Goheung-gun Family Complex Center Construction' project, which integrates family centers and care facilities, is being promoted with a goal of completion in 2023.
