Jangseong Police Station Launches Pedestrian Traffic Accident Prevention Campaign
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] The Jangseong Police Station in Jeonnam (Chief Bae Seung-gwan) announced on the 13th that it conducted a traffic safety campaign to raise drivers' awareness following the enforcement of the Road Traffic Act, which strengthens pedestrian protection obligations, starting from the 12th.
About 20 participants, including police officers, Jangseong County officials, the Model Drivers Association, and the Green Mothers' Association, took part in the campaign that day.
The main content of the revised Road Traffic Act expands the obligation to stop temporarily in front of crosswalks, prioritizing pedestrian safety, to include not only when pedestrians are "crossing" but also when they are "about to cross."
In particular, in school zones without traffic signals at crosswalks, drivers must stop temporarily regardless of the presence of pedestrians.
Violators will be fined 60,000 KRW (based on passenger cars) and receive 10 penalty points.
A Jangseong police official stated, "To effectively reduce pedestrian traffic accidents, a driving culture that considers pedestrians is needed throughout society," and added, "We ask for drivers' participation and will do our best to establish a traffic culture that protects pedestrians through active promotion and guidance."
