Among Major Retailers, Coupang Offers the Lowest Prices
KPMG Survey Results
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] A survey found that product prices from retailers other than Coupang are about 25% to 60% higher than Coupang's prices across major consumer categories.
On the 13th, Coupang announced this by releasing the latest survey results from Samjong KPMG, which analyzed the prices of 750 best-selling products sold by eight major online and offline retailers in Korea.
According to the Samjong KPMG survey, Coupang's prices were lower in four major consumer categories: computers, electronics, information and communication devices, home appliances, daily consumer goods, fresh food, and non-fresh food. In particular, the price difference was significant in the fresh food category. Other retailers sold fresh food products at prices up to 73% higher than Coupang.
Additionally, according to Samjong KPMG's analysis, consumers who frequently purchase fresh food or meal kits and single-person households use the 'Coupang Wow Membership' to buy products at lower prices than non-members and receive free, fast delivery. When analyzing prices by membership, Samjong KPMG explained that Coupang Wow members pay lower costs than non-members across all categories.
Samjong KPMG analyzed, "The biggest factor influencing consumers' purchasing decisions is price, and this survey result suggests that Coupang is leading the lowest price competition among major retailers."
